Hi, I am GIOVANNA

I was born and grew up in the United Kingdom in a Polish and Italian household, inheriting from my mother practicality and hard work and from my father creativity and sociability. My early interest in making evolved from playing with plasticine and creating small-scale models. The pleasure gained from expressing myself through my hands drew me to ceramics, First encountered as an academic subject in school at Eastbourne. It was wonderful to be able to study ceramics at GCSE and A-level. My passion grew as understanding of the medium developed beyond a hobby into a more focused practice. With encouragement from teachers to pursue this further, I knew that I had to study ceramics at degree level and was delighted to be accepted on the degree course in Ceramics at Cardiff Metropolitan University. On the course, I have deeper appreciation of material, alongside considerations of quality, value, environmental impact and process within ceramic work. My practice is shaped by repetition, intuition, and the relationship between maker and material,

I will continue this exploration through a Master’s degree at the Royal College of Art, where I hope to gain a deeper understanding of materialaspects in my work and to develop as an artist.
